Privacy and Security: Together in a Leaky Boat

Organizations store ten times more personal data today than they did four years ago. This data makes its way to innumerable data stores, applications and individuals as it is utilized in business workflows. Recent calls for data privacy have brought about superficial changes thus far. Specifically, organizations have managed to create infrastructure that enables the tracking, management, and enforcement of consent. However, they have been largely ineffective is controlling the actual flow and visibility of personal data, while it is in their possession. As a result, we have seen no impact on organizations ability to contain personal data compromises. Each week tens of organizations are in the news reporting personal data compromises associated with tens of millions of individuals.
